10th NASS Leadership: APC, Tinubu Settle for Akpabio as Senate President, Abbas as Speaker, House of Reps

Progressive Congress, APC and President-elect, Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu have considered the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godwill Akpabio for Senate President and Hon. (Dr ) Tajudeen Abbas as Speaker, House of Representatives.

A credible source in the National Assembly disclosed that the positions of the Deputy President of the Senate and Deputy Speaker had not been decided.

According to Punch, a message by one of the sources read, “President-elect, APC endorse North-West – Speaker; South-South – Senate President…settle for Sen. Godswill Akpabio and Rt. Hon. TJ Abass, Ph.D, as Senate President, Speaker.

 

“Zoning for Deputy Senate President and Deputy Speaker.

“North-West –Deputy Senate President. South-East –Deputy Speaker

“Decision taken at the meeting held at the Defence House today (Friday).”

The Kano State Governor, Abdulahi Ganduje, had earlier said Akpabio, a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, would be the next President of the Senate.

Dr. Abbas whose acceptability grows day by day across the country despite different political parties is currently the Chairman, House Committee on Land Transport and representative of Zaria Federal Constituency of Kaduna State.

Abbas is the highest sponsor of bills in the 9th National Assembly with 75 bills. President Muhammadu Buhari had signed 21 of his bills into law.
