“Abia State Governor’s wife, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has issued a stern warning to perpetrators of gender-based violence in the state: they will not go unchecked. During a visit to Mrs.

Amarachi Okpokiri, a survivor of a heinous assault by her husband, Mrs. Otti emphasized that the state government is taking concrete steps to combat gender-based violence.

The attack on Mrs. Okpokiri, which left her with severe knife wounds and a brutal attempt to tear out her eyes for ritual reasons,

sparked widespread outrage across the state. Mrs. Otti’s visit was a testament to the government’s commitment to supporting survivors and bringing perpetrators to justice.

“The state government has reinforced the committee responsible for protecting vulnerable groups, and we are working tirelessly to ensure swift justice for victims,” Mrs. Otti declared.

“Abia State will be a hostile environment for anyone involved in gender-based violence, particularly against women and children. We have zero-tolerance for such heinous acts and will do everything in our power to bring perpetrators to book.”

Mrs. Otti also highlighted the government’s efforts to increase public awareness campaigns, establish more safe houses for victims, and provide legal and psychological support for survivors.

She emphasized the importance of community engagement in preventing abuse and reporting cases, stressing that everyone has a role to play in eradicating gender-based violence.

The First Lady’s commitment to this cause is truly commendable, and her actions demonstrate a clear dedication to creating a safer and more just society for all.

By standing with survivors and holding perpetrators accountable, Mrs. Otti is helping to create a culture of respect and dignity for women and children in Abia State.”
