A devastating incident has occurred in Benue State, where a 45-year-old Internally Displaced Person (IDP), Tali Tyosoo, was brutally murdered while working on his farm.

The attack happened on Sunday afternoon, less than a kilometer from Agagbe town, where Tyosoo had been residing with his family after being displaced from his village.

Tali Tyosoo, a father of eight, had been living in the Agagbe IDP camp with his two wives and children.

Despite the challenges faced by IDPs, Tyosoo was determined to provide for his family and had ventured to his farm to cultivate crops. Tragically, his hard work and resilience were met with violence and brutality.

According to eyewitnesses, a group of armed assailants, approximately ten in number, suddenly appeared and began shooting at Tyosoo, chasing him before butchering him with cutlasses. His second wife, Mrs. Tyosoo Dorcas, 25, witnessed the horrific event and recounted the details.

“The attackers were armed with guns and cutlasses,” Dorcas said, struggling to hold back tears. “They shot my husband and chased him. When he fell, they used their cutlasses to butcher him. I was helpless, and I couldn’t do anything to save him.”

The brutal killing has sent shockwaves through the IDP community and surrounding areas, highlighting the ongoing security challenges faced by IDPs in Benue State. The victim’s body has been recovered and brought to the Agagbe camp, where his family is currently sheltered.

Local authorities are urged to increase protection measures for vulnerable populations and investigate this heinous crime thoroughly.

The community awaits official statements and decisive action to prevent further attacks on displaced persons.

As of now, the police spokesperson for Benue Command, SP Catherine Anene, has not responded to requests for comment on the incident.

The murder of Tali Tyosoo is a stark reminder of the dangers faced by IDPs in Benue State and the need for increased security measures to protect them. His family and the entire IDP community are in mourning
