Commissioner Expresses Kogi Govt. Commitment On Tapping Talents, Host 4th Edition Of White Lion Competition

Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Mineral and Natural Resources, Engr. Mohammed Abubakar Bashir Gegu, has assured the people of Kogi State on the Governor Yahaya Bello’s continued support for sports men and women at enduring the State is represented national and international competition.

Bashir Gegu spoke in Gegu Beki, Kogi Local Government Area of the State during the grand finale of the just concluded 4th edition of the White Lion Competition.

While congratulating the winner, participating teams, officials, and organizers vowed to do more.

Mr. Gegu who hosted the 4th edition of White Lion Competition said the Governor has invested so much in youth, women and human capital development as part of effort to fulfilled his engineering campaign promised geared towards engaging them and also reduced high rate of crime in the State

The Commissioner was represented by the Kogi LG Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, Hon Abubakar Onah noted that some talented players have been discovered in the just concluded competition, adding that they can compete favourably with any teams in the country.

Global Times Nigeria revealed that the annual competition is on instance of the Commissioner for Solid Mineral and Natural Resources who saw the need to hunt for talents and also empower them inline with Governor Yahaya Bello’s New Direction Mantra.

Bashir Gegu used the opportunity to acknowledge Kogi State Government for it’s support for ensuring successful hosting of the games.

“kogi State Government is committed to tapping talents through various sporting activities, and culture of sports development that would represent the State at national and international sports arena.

On his part, the Executive Chairman of Kogi LG, Hon Aliyu Daudu praised the tireless effort of the political leader of the area and Commissioner for Solid Mineral and Natural Resources, Engr. Abubakar Bashir Gegu for his sincere commitment attaining peace, progress and development of the Kogi LG.

The council boss who served as Special Guest of honour at the event noted that the State Government has been supporting the grassroots games, assuring that it would continued to do so at ensuring hidden talents are discovered among the youths in Kogi and Nigeria at large.

Dauda said his government has been supporting the youths even as he insisted that he has engaged several youths in an efforts to reduced poverty and crimes in the area.

The High Landers FC of Ozi and the Golden Stars of Koton-karfe made it to the final after defeating participating teams.

Earlier, in an appreciation, Coach and one of the organizers of the competition, Halidu Rabiu Gegu praised the peaceful atmosphere and maturity displayed by both teams.

The official commended Gov Yahaya Bello’s efforts in promoting sports activities in the State and assured of more support.

The event featured presentation of special award to the Sarkin Yaki GYB and Commissioner for Solid Mineral Resources, Engr. Abubakar Bashir.

Those honoured during the event are, the overall winner, Golden Stars FC Koton-Karfe/went home with as trophy

While second position goes to High Landers FC of Ozi honoured with Medals, youngest players and cash donation

Best coach, best goalkeeper,
Highest goal scorer and uMost well behaved team.

Presentation of medals to some invited guests, trophies to winners and Cash donation among others.

The occasion also hosted dignitaries within and outside Kogi LG who has come to witnessed the tactically football by the talented young players.
