COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF A CONGRESS OF KOGI STATE CHAPTER OF NIGERIA ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN JOURNALIST (NAWOJ) , HELD ON WEDNESDAY 14TH, JULY, 2023
Kogi State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, held its Congress on Wednesday, the 14th of June, 2023, at the NUJ Press Center, Lokoja.
The following were the resolutions reached during the Congress which was attended by members from the various Chapels of the Association.
1. NAWOJ calls on government to give urgent attention to rising cases of insecurity in Kogi State. The Association urges government to strengthen the security apparatus as there have been reported cases of gunshots and kidnapping in some areas of the State- This is necessary in order to retain the good image of the present administration, especially on security which has earned the Governor several awards.
2. NAWOJ advised parents to be vigilant and monitor their children’s activities as well as their inordinate desire for wealth, irrespective of the means as this go along way at ensuring a safe and secured Kogi State.
3. The Association resolved to carry out sensitization programmes targeted at women and youths, on the negative consequences of get-rich-quick syndrome which has been identified as one of the most prominent causes of crimes.
4. On fuel subsidy removal, NAWOJ appealed to Kogi State Government to draw up measures that will help cushion the biting effects on the people, especially the workers.
5. The Association Commended the Federal Government for the peaceful inauguration of the new Administration in the Country as well as the emergence of Senate President and Speaker of House of Representatives respectively.
6. NAWOJ also admonished the new leadership in Nigeria to lead with the fear of God in order to attain the Nigeria of the dream of the founding fathers.
