The Vice-Chancellor of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) Osara, Kogi State, Professor Abdulrahman Salawu, has commended Kogi State Government through the State Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) for the training workshop organized in promoting financial prudence among Chief Executives and Permanent Secretaries in the State.
He made this known during an Executive Training on Simple Procurement Procedure and Audit Exercise.
Speaking at the event, Professor Salau noted the relevance of the workshop in the current era, where anti-graft agencies are increasingly scrutinizing public office holders.
He stressed the need for leaders to understand and adhere to the rules governing their offices to ensure that budgeted funds are utilized effectively, especially given the state’s limited resources.
“The workshop is timely and diligent. It aims to conscientize, sensitize, and educate us on procurement procedures and laws,” said Professor Salau. “As chief executives, it is crucial that we play by the rules to add value to the funds allocated to us and to remain financially prudent.”
Reflecting on the biblical adage, “My people perish because of lack of knowledge,” Professor Salau underscored the importance of continuous learning, particularly in the area of procurement. He expressed satisfaction with the workshop’s focus on enlightening participants about the legal and procedural aspects of procurement.
In the same vain, the Vice Chancellor also took the opportunity to highlight the rapid growth of Confluence University of Science and Technology, which was established in 2020 by former Governor Alhaji Yahya Bello.
The university he said has quickly become one of the fastest-growing institutions in Nigeria. Celebrating the institution’s fourth anniversary, Professor Salau proudly noted that CUSTECH now boasts seven faculties and 46 accredited academic programs, a significant achievement for a university of its age.
“We are proud of what we have achieved in just four years. Today, CUSTECH is recognized for its rapid development, and we are committed to continuing this trajectory,” Professor Salau concluded.
