The unity of purpose and cohesion among the various ethnic group in Kogi State devoid of political interest and believes have been put to test while they speak in one voice condemning the attacks on the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party ( SDP) Alh Murtala Yakubu Ajaka and his supporters
Unconfirmed sources has it that governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State and his men stationed themselves at banda ,close to Nataco area of lokoja local government area and executed the said attack on Hon Murtala Ajaka.
On his part, Senator Dino Melaya who was one time victim of the governor’s assault stated that the attacks is uncalled for as election suppose to be a test of popularity devoid of rancour and acrimony.
Senator Dino who is the PDP governorship candidate emphasized that , governor Bello has lost touch with the reality and the people as no one is taking him serious any longer at the state and national level considering his anti- democratic disposition which he has been displaying over time has continued to bring the state into ridicule.
He further stated that the good people of Kogi State has rejected the governor and his self anointed candidate ( cousin) who midwifed the payment of percentage salaries to teachers and other catigories of workers in the Local Government Areas throughout his eight years in office.
He further posited that , what the governor is doing without knowing is that ,he is marketing and advertising the social democratic party ( SDP) governorship candidate and his party to the public thereby making the party more popular in the state.
As it is today the issues of the attacks has attracted more followership to the SDP gubernatorial candidate.
On her part, popular Mrs Natasha Akpoti Udaughan who was the SDP governorship candidate in the 2019 governorship election in Kogi State said she was once attacked by the governor and his men during the contest and of recent the governor ordered his men to excavate the road leading to her local government headquarters ( her home town) on the eve of the 2023 national assembly election which she was a candidate for Senate in Kogi Central.
She noted that the governor has attacked Senator Ogembe ,Dino and now the Social Democratic Party governorship candidate ,Alh Murtala Yakubu Ajaka ( Muri), Who knows the next target ? She querried.
She called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to make the needed differences in leadership of the country by directing the new inspector general of police and Director General , State Security Services and other sister security organizations to investigate and bring the perpetrators to book as democracy is in danger in Kogi State.
Admiral Jibrin Usman Rtd and Barr. Okeme who are candidates in the fourth coming governorship election in the State also condemned the attacks and advice all candidates and politicians to conduct themselves in accordance to the rules of the game as nothing on earth is forever even our shadow do leave us when is dark hours talk more of the things of life, emphasizing that , good name is more important than riches.
Confluence news gathered that the issue of attacks on perceived political opponents is not new in the state as even Hon Friday Sani Makama was once a victim as governor Bello has not hidden his intolerance to any form of opposition in the state.
As things stand for now Lovers of democracy and Kogi State should rise to the occasion and save the hard earned democracy in the state and the country at large.
