International Youth Day Celebration: ECOWAS Ambassador Advocates for Youth Inclusiveness in Governance

In commemoration of International Youth Day, Dr. Solomon Anyegwu, the immediate past provost of Kogi State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Idah, has urged governments at all levels to prioritize youth inclusiveness in governance.

Dr. Anyegwu emphasized that youths are a vital component of society, known for their curiosity, energy, vibrancy, social activism, and productivity.

He noted that any state or nation that wants to prosper must carry its youths along in all decision-making processes.

Youths, he said, are dynamic, charismatic, and energetic, with a natural inclination to be explorative, adventurous, and risk-bearing.

They are goal-oriented and result-driven, with a unique ability to produce great results. However, if their needs are neglected, they may manifest social vices such as drug addiction, gangsterism, and cybercriminalism.

To harness the positive energies of youths, Dr. Anyegwu advocated for good governance through youth inclusiveness. Governments, he said, must provide youths with moral education, skills acquisition, employment, leadership, remuneration, scholarships, and quality education.

Provision of basic social amenities like electricity, water supply, housing, and quality training institutions will prevent brain drain and rural-urban drift. Dr. Anyegwu concluded that giving youths attention means giving society rest, peace, and prosperity.

Leadership that promotes corruption, nepotism, tribalism, and selfishness will not experience peace and progress. Dr. Anyegwu personally advocates for good governance through youth inclusiveness for a peaceful, progressive, and prosperous society.
