The Kogi State chapter of Jam’iiyyar Matan Arewa recently celebrated its 3rd anniversary in a remarkable way. Instead of just marking the occasion, they decided to extend a gesture of love to the citizens of Kogi State.
The anniversary celebration, which took place at the children’s amusement park in Lokoja, featured several activities aimed at empowering widows and vulnerable individuals.
Ten widows and vulnerable persons received cash gifts of fifty thousand naira each to boost their businesses, while four others received grinding engines to support their livelihoods.
Notable dignitaries attended the event, including the head of civil service, the maigari of Lokoja, and representatives from the KSSTF and KSSH.
In her address, the chairperson, Hajia Fatima Yakubu, welcomed everyone and shared the organization’s mission.
Founded by northern married women in Kaduna, Jam’iiyyar Matan Arewa is a non-governmental, non-religious, non-ethnic, and non-political organization dedicated to improving the welfare of women and children.
The organization’s objectives include empowering women and children with required skills and adequate orientation for family sustainability.
They achieve this through seminars on good parenthood, security tips, and drug abuse, as well as visits to orphanages to donate essential items.
Guest speaker Dr. Stella Adejoh, represented by Professor Ofure Aito, emphasized the importance of educating the girl child, stating that “if you train a girl child, you train a nation.” She appealed to stakeholders to support the welfare of the girl child and called on the government to collaborate with the association to help marginalized women.
Fifteen women from the three senatorial districts of Kogi State benefited from the empowerment program, receiving cash gifts and grinding engines to support their businesses.
One of the beneficiaries, Sekinat Danjuma, thanked the association for their kindness, saying that the financial assistance would boost her business and enable her to cater for her family.
