A witness from Kogi Central senatorial district testified before the Kogi State governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja, alleging widespread overvoting by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Alhaji Usman Ododo.
The witness, displaying courage, recounted events at his polling unit in Adavi LGA. It’s well-known that irregularities marred the Kogi Central election, leading the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to suspend proceedings in Ogori Mangogo and four other local government areas due to alleged pre-filled results sheets and overvoting.
Interestingly, Muri Ajaka, representing the Social Democratic Party (SDP), is not challenging the outcome of the central senatorial election itself. He focuses on allegations of overvoting, pre-filled results, and the APC candidate’s lack of qualification.
At least four witnesses provided testimonies to substantiate the overvoting claims. Due to time constraints, the court could not hear testimonies from the remaining two witnesses present. The case has been adjourned to April 3, 2024, for further hearing.
