In furtherance of the ongoing tree planting revolution by the Kogi State Government, the Kogi ACReSAL Project launched its Community and Household Tree Planting Campaign, tagged “ONE MAN, ONE TREE,” in Lokoja.
The Hon. Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Management, Engr. Joseph Oluwasegun, represented His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, at the event.
The Commissioner praised the Governor for his unflinching support to Kogi ACReSAL’s laudable activities, geared towards uplifting the lives and living conditions of Kogi State residents.
He emphasized the importance of tree planting in mitigating the adverse effects of climate change and global warming.
Project Coordinator, Kogi ACReSAL, Chief (Barr.) Ladi Ahmed Jatto – OON, reiterated the significance of tree planting in preventing soil erosion, serving as windbreaks, and protecting against harmful ultraviolet rays.
She highlighted the project’s goal of planting 300 hectares of economic trees, which will help mitigate climate change effects and improve livelihoods.
The Commissioner for Agriculture assured that the tree planting campaign aims to protect the environment and bring about food security in the State.
The Commissioner for Water Resources, Engr. Farouk, appreciated the State Government’s efforts in addressing water scarcity and assured that Governor Ododo is working tirelessly to ensure access to potable water for all.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, praised Governor Ododo for his relentless efforts in positively impacting Kogites through Kogi ACReSAL’s activities.
He urged the Project Coordinator to continue her good work, as there is still more to be done for the benefit of Kogi State’s residents.
The occasion was marked by the distribution of gardening tools and equipment, planting of economic trees, and distribution of tree seedlings to community members and housing estates in Lokoja Metropolis.
