Nollywood Actor, Murphy Afolabi Dies Days After 49th Birthday
Nigeria’s movie industry is in a mourning mood again with the reported death of Murphy Afolabi.
The 49-year-old popular Yoruba actor died on Sunday morning after he collapsed in his bathroom at his residence in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
Veteran film director and producer, Tunde Ola-Yusuf confirmed the passing via his Facebook page on Sunday afternoon.
“Rest in peace. May God give the family and close associates the fortitude to bear the loss,” he wrote.
The deceased celebrated his birthday just over a week ago, precisely Friday, May 5.
The thespian carved a niche for himself with his dexterous use of rich Yoruba proverbs and unadulterated indigenous sayings. He captivated millions with beautiful acting interspersed with deep and enchanting cultural expressions. Afolabi was a custodian of Yoruba mores and folklores.
Afolabi’s death came as a rude shock to thousands of his fans and colleagues who have started paying tributes to him on social media.
Murphy, who started his career with a movie titled ‘Ifa Olokun’ under Dagunro’s guidance, featured in and produced scores of others.
