Nigerian universities lecturers and students has been admonished to introduce scientific and practical methodologies in their curriculum across the nation universities
The Poland Ambassador to Nigeria Her Excellency, Ambassador Joanna Tarnawska gave the advice at the 6 Public lecture of the University in Lokoja on Tuesday
She wants the nation university lecturers to Know their audience which are the students and proper language and content to the listeners.
“Know your subject matter and be ready to deepen your knowledge continuously
Never ask the question “Do you understand” Instead ask questions to check your students understanding.
She urged them to always give practical examples
She charged them to engage students in positive discussion and make sure they the listeners are following you.
She want Nigerian universities to build report with students and show much concern in their interests.
“Encourage questions building an atmosphere of trust will be helpful to achieve this modern lessons should not only be teacher centered .
“Keep a balance and make time for student centered lessons.create room for them for more question and challenge.
“University are a world where there are of too many information, it is important to know the authentic from the fake. Encourage critical thinking”
She wants Nigerian universities to be the guide and teach students how to look for information and how to get the gist”.
“A teacher is not an encyclopedia anymore. a teacher is a book mark , a beacon who points to the relevant paragraph.
In his opening speech the vice Chancellor of the University Professor Olayemi Durotimi Akinwumi Commended the Guest Lecturer, Her Excellency, Ambassador Joanna Tarnawska and all Principal Officers of the University,Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments/Units and all those he desctibed as distinguished Professors that make the 6th public lecture a huge success.
“Today we are privileged to have in our midst a very distinguished personality, Her Excellency, Ambassador Joanna Tarnawska, the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, whose presence dignifies this occasion.
“The topic that Ambassador Joanna brings to us today, “How to Effectively Pass Knowledge and Inspire Students in the Contemporary World,” is not just timely but imperative.
“It therefore behoves upon us to instill in our students a hunger for knowledge, a love for learning, and a sense of purpose that extends beyond classroom boundaries.
“As a Vice-Chancellor of this esteemed institution, I am keenly aware of the profound impact that effective teaching and inspirational mentorship can have on the lives of our students.
It is through the dedication and commitment of educators like yourselves that we empower our students to become critical thinkers, innovative problem-solvers, and compassionate leaders in their respective fields.
“Let me use this opportunity to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Her Excellency, Ambassador Joanna Tarnawska for graciously accepting our invitation to share her wisdom and insights on this critical subject. He urged all attendees to actively engage with the ideas presented today, to reflect on how we can collectively shape the future of education, and to recommit ourselves to the noble pursuit of empowering the next generation of leaders and innovators.
