SWS Kogi Chapter Celebrates International Day of Girl Child
International day of Girl Child.
As the world celebrate International day for the girl child, a non Governmental Organization Standup for Women Society has called on parents to give more attention to the girl child by inventing in their education.
The State Chairperson of the Association Muslimat Itopa made the call while addressing the press in Lokoja.
According to her, the day is set aside by UNICEF on October eleven to advocate for the full spectrum of girls’ rights.
Mrs Itopa noted that part of the responsibility of the association is to advocate for the right of Women and children in the society, the right for quality education.
She said Responding to girls’ calls for change, the global community must move beyond reaffirming commitments and invest in the action needed to make that change.
Mrs. Itopa said gone are the days that girls education ends in the kitchen thereby depriving them from contributing meaningfully to nation building.
Muslimat, stress that a girl child should not be sacrificed for her family’s economic salvation instead should be given an opportunity to prove their worth.
In her words ” Let a girl be a girl. And let a woman’s wedding day be unforgettable for the right reasons, with tears shed for joy to celebrate beginnings, not for sorrow to mourn endings. She added.
While appealing to parents and guardians to always look out for girl child, she also appealed to well meaning individuals to step up investments and actions to make the girl child dreams a reality.
