SWS__ Sensitises Women On The Importance of Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure child health and survival.

World Health Organisation says not fewer than half of infants under six months are exclusively breastfed.

To this end, a Non Governmental Organisation Stand up for Women Society kogi State chapter visit Adankolo Community and sensitized Women on the need to imbibe exclusive breastfeeding for the proper growth of their children.

Speaking at the event, state Chairperson of the Association, Mrs Muslima Itopa said breast milk is the ideal food for infants, It is safe, clean and contains antibodies which help protect against many common childhood illnesses.

She explained that it provides all the energy and nutrients that the infant needs for the first months of life, and it continues to provide up to half or more of a child’s nutritional needs during the second half of the first year, and up to one third during the second year of life.

The State Secretary of the Association, Hajia Rabi Jibo said exclusive breastfed children perform better on intelligence tests, are also less likely to be overweight or obese and less prone to diabetes later in life.

She added that Women who breastfeed have a reduced risk of breast and ovarian cancers hence the need for all mother’s to imbibe the culture.

The National Public Relations Officer of the Association,Mrs Billy Avoyi charged Mother’s to be responsible toward the up bringing of their children for a better society.
