The Need to Prioritize Agriculture in the Face of the Present Reality*- *President Tinubu Should Act Now.___Hon.Solomon Agada

The Nigeria President is here by called upon to be decisive in taking decisions that will ameliorate the present hardship occasioned by hunger and lack of food in the country. He should declare a state of emergency in the Agricultural Sector.

Part of the emergency approach is the immediate importation of basic food items such as rice and other grains.

Other measures are direct and massive investment in the agricultural sector by mobilizing real farmers for the 2024 cropping season through mechanize farming.

The issue of insecurity should be given an emergency approach to enable the rural farmers to have unfettered access to their farms.

Every governor in Nigeria should be directed to end the spate of violence and insecurity in their respective state without further delay with a matching order by Mr President with a specific time frame.

The last meeting between Mr President and 36 states governors where decisions were taken not to import food was in bad faith.

It was a clear indication that there were not in touch with the realities of hunger and starvation in the land. Let their comfort zone not be clouds their sensitivity to the plights of poor majority.

Mr President should be ready to take a rational approach without further delay, if not, the mass protest that is doing press up may end up consuming Nigeria as a country. “A hungry man is an angry man”.
