Thespian Murphy Afolabi, Fall of A Thespian
Death of the thespian, Murphy Afolabi, has been described as one too many and a huge loss to Nollywood. Mr Afolabi died in the early hours of yesterday. He was 49.
In a condolence message to the theatre industry and family of the deceased, Senator Ajibola Basiru of Osun Central Senatorial District said he had almost discarded the story about the death of the Osogbo-born artiste as another social media joke until the truth stared him in the face through confirmation.
“Mr Murphy Afolabi poured his blood, water and energy into the theatre industry. He was a round, complex and utility actor who would not hide his background. Murphy epitomised industry in the theatre world.”
“Mr Afolabi took off where doyen from Osogbo such as Duro Ladipo, Oyin Adejobi, Ajileye left the industry. He added to the conviction that Osogbo is home to culture and theatre. He was a pride to us. His death is a loss to Osogbo in particular, Osun and Nigeria in general. ”
Senator Ajibola Basiru prayed God to strengthen his family with fortitude and be with the theatre industry.
