“President Bola Tinubu yesterday charged the new Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, to build on the legacy of her predecessor, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, and ignore critics who only see the judiciary’s shortcomings.
He praised Justice Ariwoola’s dedication and service to Nigeria and humanity, saying his career on the bench is a testament to the re
ward for hard work and selfless service.
Speaking at the public presentation of Justice Ariwoola’s autobiography, “Judging with Justice,” President Tinubu highlighted the reforms and advancements in the administration of justice during his tenure, including the increase in the retirement age for judges and other judicial officers to 65-70 years.
He urged the new CJN to sustain these reforms and ignore those who only see the negative aspects of the judiciary.
President Tinubu also commended Justice Ariwoola for his leadership and vision, which he said had transformed the judiciary and left a lasting legacy.
He emphasized the importance of continuity and building on the progress made by the outgoing CJN.
Former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, also spoke at the event, asking every judge to reflect on whether they had truly served justice.
He emphasized the need for judges to be impartial and uphold the rule of law, ensuring that justice is served without fear or favor.
The event was attended by dignitaries, including justices, lawyers, and government officials, who all praised Justice Ariwoola’s contributions to the judiciary and wished the new CJN well in her tenure.”
