Wike, FCTA Unveils Ambitious Plan to Overhaul 135 Roads Across the Federal Capital Territory

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has unveiled a list of 135 roads scheduled for rehabilitation and resurfacing in districts including Wuse, Garki, Gwarimpa, and Maitama. The FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, inaugurated Phase I of the projects on Monday, providing contractors with a six-month completion window.

The compiled list of streets earmarked for rehabilitation and resurfacing, obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), primarily focuses on Wuse District.
Noteworthy roads in the plan include Daloa, Kayes, Umme, Bumbuna, Masana, Badundu, Oran, Sawhaj, Arusha Crescent, Sunyani, Bamako, Takorade, Dakar, Bulawayo, Soka, Darioa, Kaolack, Kigali, and Gonder Street in Wuse Zone 1.

In Zone II, roads like Kribi, Kumba, Touggourf, Kisumu, Gaborone, Faranah, Gabes, Lavumisa, Niami, Johannesburg, Angola, Korhogo, Bechar, Senanga, Hargeysa, Khartoum, and Damba Street are slated for rehabilitation.

In Zone 3, the six identified streets for rehabilitation or resurfacing are Idimba, Port Loko, Ndele, Yele, Al-Fayyun, and Aswan. The rehabilitation plan for Zone 4 encompasses roads like Mandingou, Lubumbashi, Port Said, Mogadishu, Shinyanga, Sfax, Zinglunchor, Kitwe, Elminya Close, Sefadu, Meknes, Safi, Mbala, Gwelo, Melange, Savalou, Sheraton, and Yar’adua Road.

In Zone 5, the slated roads are Doula Streets, Mombasa Street, Windhoek Street, Boffa street, and Jessaoua Close.

Zone six rehabilitation includes streets like Cotonou, Yaounde, Makeni, Massenya, Annaba, Bukoma, Mobondo, Mbabani, Diovo, Berbera, Chiongola, Jima, Kinshahsha, Bouake, Rabat, Tanga, Timbuktu, Zinder, Rumbek, Zuwai, Beyia, and Tema. Additional streets include Diredawa Street, Kalemie, Asmara, Mbandaka, Macenata/Welkom, Harare, Tripoli, Maseru, Iringa, and Dodoma Streets.

Zone 7’s rehabilitation covers Lome, Harper, Huambo, Ndola, Sokode, Sirasso and Bambari Crescents, Masaka Close, and Dalaba Street.

In Garki District, Ladoke Akintola Boulevard, Garki II, and Strabag Road, Gwarimpa Life-Camp are set for rehabilitation. Maitama will witness work on N16 Road, Maitama Roundabout, N11/B4 (Ahmadu Bello Way/This Day Dome Junction) Maitama, and the junction between Ring Road 1/Tafawa Balewa Way Area 3-Garki. Additionally, House 14, 1 and 2, off Jere Street, behind Rita Lori Hotel are slated for improvements.

Minister Wike clarified that these projects align with the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of the administration led by President.
