Women in Kogi State have been advised to support themselves for the overall growth and development of the society.
The chairman Kogi State Labor Congress (NLC) Comrade Gabriel Amari gave the advice at a one day Sensitization Programme NLC Women Committee in Lokoja.
Comrade Amari who said the need for women to support each other can not be overemphasize described women as nation builders that if they could corlaborate and work together they could form a formidable force in the society.
The Chairperson Kogi NLC Women Committee, Comrade Habibat Umar-Ibrahim explained that the sensitization programme on Women Empowerment through Leadership was aimed at making positive impact, effecting change, and guiding others towards a common goal.
Comrade Habibat maintained that Leadership is not a title or a position limited to a particular sex stressing that when women leadership could bring a unique blend of qualities that can reshape the world at large.
She urged them to ignite their passion and uphold the promise of a brighter future through purposive Leadership, embrace their strengths, overcome challenges, and create a future where women’s voices are not just heard, but celebrated.
Speaking on Empowering Women Through Leadership the Guest lecturer, Doctor Elizabeth Animoku noted that Empowering Women is given them the needed skills to build themselves for the better and become role models to the younger generation.
Doctor Elizabeth noted that gone are the days when the place of women were in the kitchen, stressing that there was need for them to improve on themselves academically, socially and set positive goals devoid of procrastination.
She also emphasised the need for women to stop hiding their potentials behind the men.
The theme for the Programme was “Empowering Women Through Leadership, Exploring Strategies and skills leadership capabilities and have a possible impact in all spheres”.
Affiliate members of the body in attendance were Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Stand up for Women Society (SWS) among others.
